Purinize Water Treatment & Water Purification

According to the EPA, today, Non-Point Source Pollution (NPS) remains the Nation's largest source of water quality problems. It's the main reason that approximately 40 percent of our surveyed rivers, lakes, and estuaries are not clean enough to meet basic uses such as fishing or swimming, nor drinking.  Fresh water sources can be contaminated with waterborne pathogens like bacteria, viruses, parasites; and other contaminants such as pesticides, industrial chemicals, hazardous waste, pharmaceuticals, and heavy metals.

Non-point Source Pollution occurs when rainfall, snowmelt, or irrigation runs over land or through the ground, picks up pollutants, and deposits them into rivers, lakes, and coastal waters or introduces them into ground water. You never know what might be upstream from you or your campsite; or lurking in drinking water when you are traveling abroad. Pastures and farming fields indirectly contaminate fresh water as runoff can carry bacteria from animal waste and agricultural chemicals into fresh water sources; many foreign countries have raw sewage treatment issues.  Even clear, odorless water can harbor contaminants.

What water treatment or water purifier product is the most effective, versatile and completely different from other portable water treatments and purifiers like Iodine, Chlorine, Chlorine Dioxide, and even UV devices (ultra-violet radiation)?

Purinize is the only non-toxic, environmentally friendly, safe to use every day water treatment that is able to both clarify and disinfect contaminated water. Chemical-based products like Iodine, Chlorine, and Chlorine Dioxide, as well as UV devices, are disinfectant-only water treatments. These water treatment and purifier products are not able to assist in the removal of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) pesticides, herbicides & fungicides, hazardous industrial chemicals, pharmaceuticals & drugs, or heavy metals.  All of these water treatment and purifier products become less effective as the turbidity of water increases.

According to the NHMRC (National Health & Medical Research Council), before adding a disinfectant to water, to increase the efficiency of disinfection, the physical quality (particularly turbidity and pH) of the water should first be improved to decrease the likelihood that disease-causing organisms or pollutants will be harbored in suspended matter.

Purinize will disinfect and clarify virtually any fresh water source within minutes.  Through a process referred to as flocculation, when Purinize is added to water, causes dissolved, invisible impurities, like dirt, organic waste, and micro-organisms to come out of suspension and agglutinate or clump together.

The process of agglutination (clumping) occurs where impurities are neutralized as they clump together becoming insoluble.  The insoluble impurities then precipitate in the water becoming filterable.  The additional process of filtration is suggested for removal of agglutinated particulates; but the need for specific pore size or special filter media is not necessary as a paper filter, t-shirt or any portable water filtration device will suffice in real field conditions.

In the event that a filtration method is not available, after a short wait time (depending on turbidity), the particulates, through gravity and a process referred to as deposition, will descend to the bottom of your water container allowing you to scoop or pour the clarified water into another container.

What about filtration?

After researching several portable water filtration devices, we at Purinize chose the Sawyer Mini Water Filter for use in conjunction with our water purifier product.

The Sawyer-Mini water filter is lightweight and extremely convenient to use in the field.  This portable filtration device comes with a collapsible water bag or can be screwed onto most plastic water bottles.

Using the same filtering technology as dialysis, the Sawyer Mini Water Filter is rated to 0.1 micron absolute, weighs only 2 ounces, and filters up to 100,000 gallons!

With concerns about the quality of water, virtually everywhere you go ... the combination of Purinize water purifier and a filtration device, like the Sawyer Mini water filter, is like having a portable water treatment plant in the palm of your hand!

What about laboratory testing?

All Purinize product testing has been performed by independent, EPA-certified laboratory, Envirotek Laboratories. Lab tests can be provided for review upon request. All laboratory tests were conducted with a 0.2 micron filtration system for the removal of precipitates.

Purinize has been found to eliminate or reduce up to 99.9% of the following pathogens:

  • Giardia Lamblia
  • Cryptosporidium
  • Escherichia coli (E.Coli)
  • Enterobacter cloacae
  • Proteus mirablis
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Klebsiella terrigena
  • Poliovirus I
  • Rotavirus

Purinize has been found to reduce up to 99.9% of contaminants in the following categories:

  • 160 Industrial Chemicals including Volatile Organic Compounds, Hexavalent Chromium, BPA and, most recently, MCHM (contaminated the Elk River in Charleston, WV leaving over 300,000 residents without potable water for nearly a month.)
  • 79 Pesticides, Herbicides, & Fungicides including DDT & Atrazine, which is the number one contaminant found in drinking water in the U.S., and quite possibly globally.
  • 36 Pharmaceuticals including Steroids & Antibiotics
  • Disinfectants & their byproducts including Chlorine, Chloramines & Trihalomethanes
  • Heavy Metals including Arsenic, Lead & Mercury

What about water emergencies and storage?

Purinize is ideal for emergency & preparedness situations like water storage. An 8 ounce bottle of Purinize will treat a 55 gallon storage container.  Purinize does not lose effectiveness over time; once the water is treated with Purinize, the particulates will descend to the bottom of your storage container. If stored properly, the water will remain safe to drink for years.

For emergency water situations filling your bathtub, collected rain water, or even water from your pool or hot tub can be treated with Purinize for emergency water use.

What about using Purinize in the field – camping, hiking, hunting, etc?

Purinize comes in a convenient, lightweight 2 ounce pocket size bottle which will treat approximately 60 liters of water (depending upon turbidity and water quality).

Simply add Purinize to your water bottle and filter out the particulates; or wait for the deposition process and pour the clarified water into another container.

Can I use Purinize when I travel?

Purinize water purifier is ideal for traveling to places where water quality is suspect.  Our 2 ounce bottle will conveniently fit in your pocket or purse; our 8 ounce bottle is great to pack in your suitcase to refill your 2 ounce bottle.

Add Purinize to a glass of water when brushing your teeth, refilling your water bottle at drinking water fountains, and in your water glass at restaurants.

Add a Sawyer-Mini to your travel checklist. The Sawyer-Mini will also conveniently fit in a pocket or purse.  Simply attach it to your plastic water bottle, add Purinize, and drink safe, clean water.

Can I use Purinize at home for my family?

Not just for outdoor adventures, travel and preparedness. Purinize is 100% non-toxic, and free of synthetic, toxic chemicals. It’s completely safe to use on regular basis for all of your water needs making it ideal for home water purification.

Municipal water in America is generally believed to be safe, but recent studies have revealed that it often contains the same toxins you might find in a river or stream; so purifying the tap water you use and consume every day at home is just as - if not, more -  important as purifying water collected from freshwater sources.

What about water from wells & cisterns?

Purinize is ideal if you have well water or a cistern, especially if you live in a rural, highly agricultural area where pesticides are used and where arsenic levels are of concern.

Use Purinize to treat the drinking water for you and your pets, for bathing, cleaning and cooking, watering plants and gardens, even for your livestock in their water troughs.

Fill a large container with water, add Purinize and wait a short time for the precipitates to fall to the bottom of your container.  Pour the clarified water into another container to drink.  There are many gravity-fed, countertop water filtration devices available for home use.  Purinize will be offering such a device in the very near future.

Purinize can make clean, safe water a part of your every day life by reducing contaminants that pose dangerous health risks for you, your family and even your pets.
